| Opening and closing times for the banks are Monday - Friday 08,30 - 14,00, with some remaining open till 14,15. All banks are closed on Sundays, public holidays and local or provincial holidays. During the winter only, they are open on Saturdays from 09,00 - 13,00. |
| To avoid hassle and aggravation, be warned that the majority of banks will not allow you to pay any household or other service bills outside of a strict bill paying schedule which they meticulously state and dutifully abide by. If you do get inadvertently caught out, you may stand a chance if you have an account at the particular branch (thus making you a client) where you seek to make the payment. Rules can almost certainly be bended in Spain. Moreover, if you also have the privilege of being considered a longstanding and loyal customer, you can almost certainly expect the rules to be completely broken. |

| The Nerja Secondhand Book Centre is an excellent English secondhand bookshop, the only of its kind in Nerja and probably in the wider area. They have been in business for 28 years and have been featured on the BBC and in Best Magazine and have also been recommended by The Rough Guide and Let's Go travel books! |
| They have a very wide selection of fiction and non-fiction titles and a wide variety of genres. They also have sections in Spanish, German, Dutch and French. |

| Another really good English bookshop in Nerja is Smiffs Book and Card Store. They stock the newest publications and latest bestselling books and have a wide selection of reference books with particular emphasis on books written by local authors on the Axarquia region and local area. They can also order new, out-of-print and antiquarian books. |
| They also stock a large selection of high quality greeting cards and top brand art cards and Christmas cards, available boxed or as singles; beautiful gift stationery, games and quality jigsaw puzzles; a wide selection of local maps and guides for walking, driving and otherwise enjoying Nerja, Frigiliana and the surrounding area of the Axarquia as well as the Alpujarras, Costa del Sol, Andalucia and Spain. | Smiffs is located in a small arcade on Calle Almirante Ferrandiz 10 (Calle Cristo), or about 35 metres north of the Post Office (Correos). The two stores at the front of the arcade are the hairdressers Walli Ron and clothes store Tip-Top. Opposite the entrance to the arcade is a bar/restaurant called Meson de Julio, which is already becoming popular with customers as a coffee house to read and discuss books. When you look down the arcade, you will see a sign for The English Bookshop. (Just to confuse things, our street is better known by the locals as Calle Cristo, its former name!)
